EAST
MISSION: To provide individuals and teams with the opportunity to maximise their potential by competing at the highest level possible, given their own ability. (Based on Statement of Purposes of Basketball Victoria)
East is a delegated body of the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL), with the authority to run competitions below Metro level in the eastern region of the metropolitan area. The Competition reports to the VJBL and to Basketball Victoria.
East cooperates with the VJBL and the North West through common rules (with some minor variations), a common registration system and interlocking fixtures.
The regional competitions are based on the view that basketball is very strong in the Melbourne metropolitan area, and there are many talented juniors who may not make Victorian Championship, or Metro Championship teams, but whose basketball participation will be strengthened and enriched by the variety of opposition, the intensity, and the prestige of participation in regional Chapionships.
Many players reach Victorian Junior Chamionship teams after playing bottom age in East the previous year. Others are nurtured on a more long term basis. East is for players who are committed to improvement and serious competition, so they can reach their limits.
East is committed to upholding the standards represented by Basketball Victotia's Code of Conduct. This depends primarily on the influence of coaches, organisers and supporters. We request the cooperation of all those involved.
